Banksias 
                                                  of the tropics and subtropics 
                                                  may not be quite as spectacular 
                                                  as some of their Western Australian 
                                                  counterparts but their long 
                                                  autumn and winter flowering 
                                                  season provides welcome colour 
                                                  at that time of the year. Above 
                                                  all they are adapted to our 
                                                  wet, humid summers and are likely 
                                                  to grow quite well without special 
                                                  treatment. Those from WA are 
                                                  adapted to a reverse regime 
                                                  of winter rainfall and very 
                                                  dry summers and are susceptible 
                                                  to root rot fungi on the east 
                                                  coast.
